Introduction

The function of the Drive and Shaft ASM of the starter is one-way engagement and reverse disengagement. When starting, the motor is generally driven by the battery, and then the crankshaft is driven to rotate through the Drive and Shaft ASM. Since the speed of the motor is higher than that of the engine at this time (the engine is relatively static or the speed is very low before starting), when the engine is started, since its speed is higher than the speed of the starter motor, the Drive and Shaft ASM rotates in the opposite direction relative to the crankshaft. Therefore, the starter motor is disconnected from the rotation of the engine to protect the starter motor from damage.
