Bosch Packaging Technology is set to unveil the new inspection unit KKX 3900 for the inspection of filled hard capsules. The unit serves as a system for comprehensive and 100% weight and quality control.

The small unit is equipped with soft x-ray technology and an associated sensor for image creation. It is universally applicable and apart from filling weight control, it also measures the length of capsules.

According to the company, KKX 3900 can check all quality features such as weight, foreign particles, deformation of capsule top and bottom, as well as length, simultaneously. The unit can be installed after any capsule filling machine and achieves an output of up to 220,000 capsules per hour.

Foreign particles in the filling product or capsule material are also detected by the machine. It examines capsule quality comprehensively in one single process step and discharges capsules that are not in line with desired requirements individually.

Four measurement systems combination in one compact unit with minimal interference leads to reduced space requirements as well as lower costs and results in productivity increase.

The exact process control implements several visual systems' functions for identifying errors and further process control features, which can be activated by software updates are being developed currently, Bosch said.
